Journalism in a Time of Disruption
SABEW’s 56th annual Spring conference will explore the many challenges – and opportunities – our industry faces today. Through skills session, keynotes and networking, we’ll help reporters and news managers do their jobs better and make sense of what’s happening in our industry. We look forward to seeing you at ASU’s casual campus setting in sunny Phoenix where you’ll get a chance to connect with colleagues old and new and ensure that business journalism continues to thrive.

SABEW19 is proud to present 2019 Pulitzer Prize winner Susanne Craig, interviewed by 2017 Pulitzer Prize winner, Kevin Hall.

In 2016, a mysterious envelope landed on Susanne Craig’s desk. In it was a page of Donald Trump’s 1995 tax return. Craig, an investigative reporter at The New York Times, published a story at the time, but that envelope ended up sending her and her colleagues on a secretive two-year deep dive into the Trump family’s complex business dealings. The result was an explosive 14,000-word story, published last October, on how Trump really got rich.

In this session, 2019 Pulitzer Prize recipient, 2018 Best in Business award winner and three-time Gerald Loeb Award winner, will sit down with Kevin Hall, a former SABEW president and Pulitzer Prize winner, to talk about how The Times obtained that envelope, how she and her coworkers analyzed 100,000 pages of tax and real estate information and how she wrote one of the most important business stories of the Trump presidency.

Room 252 – Cronkite classroom, located on the 2nd Floor of ASU’s Cronkite School, 555 North Central Ave., Phoenix.
