Journalism in a Time of Disruption
SABEW’s 56th annual Spring conference will explore the many challenges – and opportunities – our industry faces today. Through skills session, keynotes and networking, we’ll help reporters and news managers do their jobs better and make sense of what’s happening in our industry. We look forward to seeing you at ASU’s casual campus setting in sunny Phoenix where you’ll get a chance to connect with colleagues old and new and ensure that business journalism continues to thrive.

Michelle Singletary, nationally syndicated personal finance columnist at The Washington Post, will receive the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing’s highest honor, its Distinguished Achievement Award, for 2019.  The award is given to an individual who has made a significant impact on the field of business journalism and who has served as a nurturing influence on others in the profession.

As an award-winning personal finance columnist, Singletary stands apart as a compelling journalist on a mission who connects with her audience by delivering useful information.

From her challenging upbringing in Baltimore to her present-day work providing financial counseling in-person to prison inmates and couples through her church, she truly walks the walk. Having worked for years as a nationally syndicated columnist for The Washington Post, Singletary’s remarkable passion is evident from the moment one hears her speak or reads her columns. During this SABEW19 session, we’ll celebrate her career and she’ll share her personal experiences while providing insights into her own unique approach breaking the mold of personal finance writing. Time will be provided for moderated audience Q-and-A with host Mark Hamrick, Washington bureau chief, Bankrate.com.

This luncheon session is sponsored by the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE).

First Amendment Forum located on the 2nd Floor of ASU’s Cronkite School, 555 North Central Ave., Phoenix
