This panel will examine the potential economic impact of self-driving vehicles and how they can complement existing transportation systems and provide "last mile solutions,” referring to the challenging last leg of travel for people or goods from a transportation or distribution hub to their final destination.

This panel features Tekedra Mawakana, chief external officer for Mountain View, Calif.-based Waymo. Her company has been operating autonomous vehicles in the Phoenix area since 2016 and launched the nation’s first paid, autonomous ride service, Waymo One.

Scott Smith is CEO of Valley Metro, the regional transit agency that provides bus, rail and other transportation services in a more than 500-square-mile area. Smith was mayor of Mesa, the third largest city in Arizona and one of the locations where Waymo vehicles operate.

Ryan Randazzo is a business journalist at The Arizona Republic who has extensively reported on the confluence of self-driving vehicles operating in the Phoenix area. He'll offer story ideas and tips about covering autonomous cars.

Rich Barbieri, executive editor of CNN Business, will moderate the panel. Rich oversees digital coverage and newsgathering for CNN’s worldwide coverage of brands, media, markets, economics, technology, and personal finance.
